Lifesum uses advanced AI technology to make food tracking quick, easy, and accurate. Whether you prefer speaking, snapping a photo, or typing, the AI will assist you in logging your meals effortlessly. Here's how it works:
How to Track Food
- Access the Diary Screen
- Go to the Diary screen in the app.
- Tap the "+" button to start tracking your food.
- Choose Your Preferred Tracking Method
After clicking the "+" button, you can select one of these five options:- Voice: Speak the name of your meal or food item (e.g., “One cup of cooked oatmeal”). The AI will analyze your input and provide detailed nutritional information.
- Image: Take or upload a clear photo of your food. The AI will identify the food, estimate portion sizes, and calculate its nutritional value.
- Text: Type the name of your food or dish. The AI will fetch the calories, macronutrients, and other details.
- Barcode Scanner: Scan a food item's barcode to quickly retrieve accurate nutritional information.
- Quick Track: Log a simple entry by manually adding the meal name and calorie count. Here you can also access your saved favorite meals and recipes.
Tips for Best Results
- Voice Input: Speak clearly and provide detailed descriptions (e.g., “150 grams of grilled salmon with broccoli”).
- Image Input: Ensure the photo is clear, well-lit, and focused on the food. Avoid including multiple items in the frame.
- Barcode Scanning: Position the barcode clearly within the scanner’s frame.
- Quick Track: Use this for recurring meals or when you’re short on time.
Important Notes on AI Accuracy
While AI tracking is designed to be as accurate as possible, it may occasionally provide incorrect information due to the following limitations:
- Food Recognition Limitations:
- Image-Based Tracking: If the photo is unclear, contains multiple items, or the dish is complex, the AI may not identify the food correctly.
- Voice/Text Input: Ambiguous descriptions (e.g., “a bowl of salad”) can lead to less precise results.
- Portion Size Estimates:The AI estimates portion sizes based on the input provided. These estimates may not always match your actual portion sizes.
- Food Data Variations:Different brands, recipes, and preparation methods can affect nutritional content. The AI uses standardized data, which might not reflect all variations.
How to Improve Accuracy
- Be Specific: Provide detailed descriptions, including portion sizes (e.g., “200 grams of baked sweet potato”).
- Use Clear Images: Ensure food photos are well-lit and free from distractions.
Switching Off AI-Driven Tracking
If you prefer to use traditional tracking methods instead of AI-driven features, you can easily make the switch:
- Go to Settings: Open the app and navigate to the Settings menu.
- Toggle Off AI-Driven Tracking: Find the option labeled "AI-driven tracking" and toggle it off.
- Use Traditional Tracking: You can now track food manually using search, barcode scanning, or other non-AI methods.
