Lifesum's complete food database consists of six main sources that allow you to search for almost any food item and still get a result. The sources are the following:
- USDA (US)
- MyNetDiary
- UK Food Standards Agency (UK)
- Bundeslebensmittelschlüssel (Germany)
- Livsmedelverket (Sweden)
- Food created by our users
How can I trust the food items created by other users?
For both food items uploaded by Lifesum but also for food items created by other users, you can always primarily look for Verified Food Items. These food items are marked with a blue badge next to them so you can tell them apart from the other user-created food items.
Why are there sometimes multiple versions of the same item?
Food items can vary slightly depending which database they come from therefore it can exist two different versions for the same item for example if one comes from the US data sourcse and the other one from the UK data source. Usually these differences are so small that will not have any impact on your tracking/result.
When it comes to the user created food items in the database, it may contain even more varieties of a same item, sometimes with errors in them. Therefore it is even more important that you try to find verified versions of the food item you want to track. You can also use the information on the food packaging to compare with the items you find in Lifesum.
Can I correct food items or create my own?
Premium users can both edit user created food items and create their own food items.
If you find a food item with that contains an error you can press the edit button just below the nutritional information on the item. Note that it is not possible to correct Lifesum verified items. Adding missing information to a food item will also make it so that the food item will receive a food rating.
You can also report items directly in the app by clicking on the product in question and then on the Report button at the bottom.
In order to create a new food item you go to Favorites under the Progress tab.
